Aquapot Benefits

Everyone is familiar with the popular phrase “April showers bring May flowers.” This is a wonderful thing in Michigan as the trees start to bud and everything comes alive in April. But what happens after those April showers when the sun is out longer, the weather warms, and the showers cease? Plants begin to dry out. Most plants in the landscape will acclimate to the warmer temperatures and reduced water, but annuals seem to always need watering. Day after day the hose must be drug out or water cans need to be filled to water the annuals. Missing one hot, dry, sunny day can be detrimental to annuals. That is where Aquapots can be the saving grace for those that struggle to water their annuals day after day. Aquapots were designed to be a self-watering system that will continuously supply the plants in them with the water they need for multiple days in a row. Some Aquapots can water plants for up to two weeks before needing to refill the reservoir.

Aquapots work by wicking water up through the soil to the plant’s roots. Aquapots come in a wide variety of colors and sizes that appeal to the classic look or the contemporary look. The unique design of Aquapots has a void inside the bottom of the pot that is used to store the water the plants will take up. A tube that is submerged in the water reservoir is filled with soil which acts as the wick. Soil and plants are added to the top of the container to add the finishing. Once planted, it is recommended to soak the plants and the soil from the top to ensure the freshly planted plants do not dry out. There is a tube that just sticks out the top of the soil line that is used to fill the water reservoir moving forward. The Aquapot has been designed with a weep hole on the side of the pot to ensure there is proper drainage and helps determine when to stop adding water during each filling. Another benefit of Aquapots is that fertilizer can be added directly into the water. This will continuously give the plants the extra nutrients they need to really thrive.
