We recently asked Brian Keuning to share his top plant picks. Here’s what he had to say:

Brian Keuning, Operations Manager

Little Lime Hydrangea

Hydrangea paniculate ‘Jane’

This compact shrub is a smaller form of ‘Limelight’; features large conical flower heads that start chartreuse and change to pink in the cooler, late-season weather, lasting into fall

Tricolor Beech

Fagus sylvatica ‘Tricolor’

A lovely accent tree with beautiful green leaves that are flecked with white with pink edges, turning copper in fall; distinctive, smooth, silver bark; leaves may burn in prolonged direct sun or drying winds; give it lots of room to grow and look its best

Tuliptree

Liriodendron tulipfera

One of the tallest native trees of eastern North America, features uniquely shaped leaves and large yellow tulip-shaped flowers which are hard to see because of the height of the tree; needs lots of moisture and room to grow, not for small properties

Lucifer Crocosmia

Crocosmia ‘Lucifer

Breathtaking and bold scarlet-red flower scapes are one-sided and rise above iris-like foliage; attracts hummingbirds; best performance in full-sun; plant corms in spring if starting this plant yourself, can be lifted in fall

Rhode Island Red Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Rhode Island Red’

A stunning landscape choice, this fine accent tree features dense compact branching and bright red spring foliage that darkens to deep red through summer; outstanding orange-red in fall; a highly desirable specimen for the garden or landscape
