Audrey’s Plant Picks of the Week – Aug 21 2023

Every week we’re publishing a NEW Plant Picks of the Week story, showcasing our Plant Specialists’ top plant picks. Get ready to be inspired!

We recently asked Audrey Mileski to share her top plant picks. Here’s what she had to say:

Green Mountain Sugar Maple

Acer saccharum ‘Green Mountain’

A choice and very popular selection of sugar maple with thick dark green foliage and rich gold fall color; a large tree with a formal shape, excellent for most landscapes; adaptable to soils, but dislikes air pollution and compaction

Fat Albert Blue Spruce

Picea pungens ‘Fat Albert’

A dense and compact spire-shaped evergreen accent tree for general landscape use with large stout branches and long, very pointy silvery-blue needles, very showy and colorful, an ideal size for smaller home landscapes, extremely hardy and rugged

Bruns Weeping Spruce

Picea omorika ‘Pendula Bruns’

A very unique and highly artistic evergreen tree for the landscape with strongly weeping and slightly twisted branches along a single central trunk, resulting in a very tall, spire-like form; best used as a solitary accent in the overall composition

Firecracker Stonecrop

Sedum ‘Firecracker’

A compact upright stonecrop with large clusters of deep pink flowers held atop distinct dark cherry red succulent foliage; a drought-tolerant perennial that does best in poor soils; a colorful groundcover or feature in containers or rock gardens

Happy Face® Yellow Potentilla

Potentilla fruticosa ‘Lundy’

Presenting extra large, bright yellow flowers from spring to late summer, this stunning variety is also very tough and hardy and will survive challenging locations; great for mass plantings
