Jacqueline’s Plant Picks of the Week – Apr 17 2023

Every week we’re publishing a NEW Plant Picks of the Week story, showcasing our Plant Specialists’’ top plant picks. Get ready to be inspired!

We recently asked Jacqueline to share her top plant picks. Here’s what she had to say:

Show Off® Forsythia

Forsythia x intermedia ‘Mindor’

A compact shrub suited to borders or in the garden; superior, brilliant yellow bell-shaped flowers in spring along the branches and deep green foliage have made this a garden favorite for early spring color

Whipcord Arborvitae

Thuja plicata ‘Whipcord’

A real gem of an evergreen shrub, forming a compact mound; features long green foliage that arches downward like hanging cords; ideal for use as an interesting detail accent in the shrub or rock garden; performs best in moist locations

Elegans Spruce

Picea abies ‘Elegans’

This cultivar has deep green foliage and normally grows into a rounded, low, dome shape; will eventually grow quite large if left unpruned; early bud break distinguishes this cultivar from other similar varieties

Thundercloud Plum

Prunus cerasifera ‘Thundercloud’

A stunning accent tree that resembles a cloud of fragrant pink flowers in spring, deep purple foliage all season long; makes a bold statement in the landscape, best used as a solitary feature tree or in street plantings

Dorothy Swift Rhododendron

Rhododendron ‘Dorothy Swift’

A lovely selection featuring pale pink and white frilly blooms emerging from hot pink buds, over dark green, glossy foliage; quite hardy; absolutely must have well-drained, highly acidic and organic soil, use plenty of peat moss when planting
